Florida State's Jameis Winston under investigation for alleged sexual assault

Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston is currently under investigation in an alleged sexual assault case in Tallahassee. The alleged assault happened last December.
Winston, who is a redshirt freshman from Bessemer, Alabama, has denied that he did anything wrong. The police report, which doesn’t identify Winston, says that the incident occurred between 1:30 and 2 in the morning on December 7, 2012. The victim described the attacker as being between five-foot-nine and five-foot-eleven and weighing 240 pounds. Winston is listed as six-foot-four and weighing 228 in the Florida State media guide, according to Fox Sports. Winston wasn’t a possible suspect in the case until the spring semester started in January.
Winston’s attorney has filed affidavits from two “key” witnesses with state authorities. What the two witnesses said is unknown. Winston has not been questioned by police or prosecutors. Florida State issued a statement regarding this issue on Wednesday.
“We are aware of a matter that was investigated by the Tallahassee Police Department almost a year ago,” the statement said. “Because the investigation has not been closed by TPD, we cannot comment further at this time. We look forward to a speedy resolution of the issue. There is no change in Jameis Winston’s status. Coach Jimbo Fisher and Jameis will be answering questions about football only until there is a resolution.”
In his first college season Winston has been outstanding. He is one of the leading contenders for the Heisman Trophy. He has passed for 2,661 yards and 26 touchdowns, helping Florida State win its first nine games, according to the Associated Press. Florida State is currently No. 2 in the BCS standings and the AP Top 25 poll.
Winston will play in Saturday’s game against Syracuse.
