Atlas Genius begin writing for their sophomore album

Australia’s breakout artist Atlas Genius have been touring non-stop in support of their Warner Bros. debut album When It Was Now that was released in February, and have opened up for acts Silversun Pickups and Imagine Dragons. Atlas Genius quickly became a favorite among alternative/indie artists, fueling When It Was Now to peak at number 34 in the Billboard 200. Even with that, the band are already prepping for their sophomore album as they end their headlining North American tour.

"I just finished a new song a couple days ago," frontman Keith Jeffery tells Rolling Stone. "I don't want to tell you too much in case it doesn't make it onto the album, but I've spent a lot of time in New York over the last year, so there's a lot of being in New York coming through. Whereas before a lot of what I wrote was relationship-inspired, I'm now writing about places."

Having formed in 2009 with brothers Michael and Steven, Jeffery put the Atlas Genius song “Trojans” online but they weren’t expecting the attention they received. In an interview with SF Gate Jeffery stated “When you're younger, you expect an easy ride. At the point we released ‘Trojans,’ we were the least optimistic about the chance of our musical going anywhere. We were just enjoying the process of writing and recording and listening back to the songs. We didn't think anyone else would hear the music.”

Finishing up their American tour over the next week, Atlas Genius head to England for the rest of November, then come back to the states before the holidays.
