Due to backlash and stock price plummets following CEO’s comments, Abercrombie and Fitch will be expanding to include larger sizes for women.
The clothing store is planning to expand styles and give more sizes for women starting this spring, according to Reuters. There is no announcement on what sizes that A&F will sell but they have said that they will be carrying sizes larger than they already have.
According to the clothing store’s website, the largest size they currently sell is women’s size 10 and large. However, they do sell men’s XXL.
As we previously reported, A&F CEO Mike Jeffries was quoted saying that he “doesn’t want larger people shopping in his store,” and that he wants “thin and beautiful people.” With the announcement that they will be offering larger sizes, it is clear that Jeffries words did have serious consequences for the company.
According to CNN, A&F’s stocks are plummeting. In August, they dropped a dramatic 18% while its competitors H&M and Urban Outfitters saw increases. Since the announcement, A&F has seen a .91% stock increase.
A&F is not shy of controversy. This year alone, they received criticism for marketing a padded bra bathing suit toward seven-year-olds. They also had a feud with Taylor Swift fans when they had a t-shirt mocking the singer’s love life.
What are your thoughts on A&F's new change? Will you shop at the store when they begin selling the bigger sizes?
