Two of the women kidnapped, imprisoned, raped and tortured for a decade by Ariel Castro are coming forward to tell their story through the written word. Amanda Berry, 27, and Gina DeJesus, 23, are talking to Pulitzer-Prize winning writer Mary Jordan of the Washington Post, who will compose a book about their experience.
"Many have told, and continue to tell, this story in ways that are both inaccurate and beyond the control of these young women," Wooley wrote in a statement, reports NBC News. "Gina, Amanda and their families have decided to take control and are now interested in telling the story of what happened to them."
According to ABC News, the third woman tortured by Castro will not participate in the book. Michelle Knight, 32, will instead appear on Dr. Phil McGraw's show, where she will give her testimony in a three-part installment.
"We wanted her to be a part of it. We offered it to her," said James Wooley of the Jones Day law firm, who arranged the book deal. "She met with the people and then she made the decision to go her own way and we wish her the best."
"Michelle Knight's story of horror and courageous survival almost defies description and has changed me like no other in 12 years of doing the show," Dr. Phil in a statement about Knight's appearances, which begin Nov. 4. "Her dark journey from victim to victor is beyond compelling."
Castro was sentenced to a life of prison after pleading guilty to 937 counts, including kidnapping, rape, assault and aggravated murder – he committed suicide in his jail cell on Sept. 3.
