Variety announced Jimmy Kimmel as this year’s recipient of the Power of Comedy award. The event itself is a performance-based effort held to raise funds for women’s cancer research and awareness. Kimmel will be honored at the fourth annual event on November 16th in Hollywood, California. The Power of Comedy event will feature a plethora of comedic relief to help raise funds for this year’s partnering organization.
This news comes at a good time for Kimmel, who had a rough week at the office hosting his show, Jimmy Kimmel Live. After Wednesday night’s guest, Kanye West made a location-based threat on air (West reminded Kimmel and his audience how he was from Chicago) Jimmy will be relieved to know the proximity of his award celebration to West’s hometown of Chicago is quite far. Read more about his interview with West, here.
No stranger to hosting his own late-night talk show, Johnny Carson, too, will be honored in ink when his lawyer’s memoir hits shelves on October 17th. Henry Bushkin, the book’s author provides original insight inside the man who made late night legendary. Bushkin released an exclusive excerpt to the Hollywood Reporter.
The story is thoughtful, telling, and takes place at the end of Carson’s career during his brief separation from his third wife, Joanna. The drama follows Carson on and off the air, as it chronicles both fascinating events from his personal and professional career. An amazing man who paved the way for late night laughs, if you are a “Fan of Funny” I recommend this read to you!
But not everyone cuts the mustard when it involves attracting an audience. Another show bites the dust this week as Fall TV bids adieu to the CBS flop, We Are Men. The network attributed lackluster ratings to the sitcom’s failure. The show, despite a noteworthy cast including Kal Penn and Jerry O’Connell, was so disengaging that CBS decided to pull the plug after just two episodes. Sorry guys, but at least White Castle is still open.
