Last night we were met with a newly single Mindy, and boy is she a train wreck. I don’t like seeing our girl miserable, but I am happy that she isn’t going to marry Casey. Their relationship never worked for me. Plus, a heartbroken Mindy is often a hilarious Mindy. Let’s get to it.
Mindy wallowed in her failed engagement by crying and listening to Les Miserables “I Dreamed a Dream.” Dramatic, yes, but I would expect nothing less from a fiancé-less Mindy.
Over at the office, Shulman & Associates got a new name. Since Shulman is no longer an associate, Jeremy decided to rename the office Pearson, Castellano, Reed, and Prentiss. Mindy won’t be Mrs. Casey Pearson anymore, so she had to tell the office that their relationship was over.
Mindy told her coworkers, “It didn’t make sense to get married once we’d broken up,” and then asked to use her “heartbreak days.” Jeremy quickly reminded her those don’t exist (why not?!), so at work she stayed.
Her day at work wasn’t useless though, because she found out that Morgan has Good Luck Chuck syndrome. Whenever Morgan breaks up with a girl, that girl always marries the next person she dates. This strange fact is dangerous information to give to a love sick Mindy, but more on that later.
Danny is having trouble adjusting to Peter, the new doctor who still thinks he’s a college frat boy. The ensuing storyline is boring and predictable, so let’s get through it as quickly as possible.
Jeremy, Danny, and Peter try to engage in some hospital locker room talk. Peter inappropriately grabs Danny’s privates as he explains how his recent date went. Unsurprisingly, Danny takes great offense and demands that Peter be fired.
Jeremy being the softy that he is believes everyone should get a second chance and chooses not to fire Peter. Jeremy’s sentiment is nice, but didn’t Peter already get a second chance after he botched his interview in last week’s episode? It seems that Peter is really getting a second-second chance.
Back at her apartment, a depressed Mindy is drinking wine by the bottle. Morgan comes over in an attempt to comfort his friend, but Mindy has a more troubling idea. Drunkenly, she asks Morgan to use his “magic” on her. She thinks that if she sleeps with Morgan, then she’ll marry the next guy she dates. This plan has no flaws, right? Oh, so wrong.
After some convincing, Morgan finally agrees. He’s either the best or worst friend a girl can have. I can’t decide. While Mindy is freshening up, she comes to her senses and changes her mind. She walks out into her candlelit bedroom where a naked Morgan starts speaking with his bedroom voice. Deeply regretting her decision, Mindy kicks poor Morgan out of her apartment, but not before she see’s his... well, everything.
The next day at work, Morgan files a sexual harassment law suit against Mindy. Suing may be a little extreme, but it gave us an opportunity to see cute lawyer Cliff Gilbert, so I didn’t mind.
In order to avoid going to trial, Gilbert says the practice must pay up $200,000. Morgan then proposes an alternative deal: he’ll forget about the money if Mindy takes him out on a fancy date. Of course, Danny and Jeremy force a chagrined Mindy to agree to the date. Mindy quips, “If you let me have heartache days, we wouldn’t be in this situation.”
Mindy is a nightmare on their date. At first, she refused to go. Then, she texted at the restaurant and was disinterested in everything Morgan said. I understand Morgan’s a bit eccentric, but he’s giving her and the practice a huge break. She should be more selfless, but that a hard thing to sell to a selfish person.
Their date takes a turn after dinner, when Morgan takes Mindy to his favorite place, the quarry. Even though she was out in nature, Mindy loved it. Morgan explains that he comes here to let go of his problems by shouting them into the open void.
Mindy tries it out and yells, “Casey I miss you. I hate feeling this way.” Before they leave, she throws a photo booth film strip of her and Casey into the quarry and walks away.
I don’t think Mindy is over Casey completely, but her cathartic experience at the quarry certainly is a start in the right direction.
What did you think? Do you like Mindy single? Do you think her and Cliff will get together? Did anyone else think it was adorable when Danny took Casey’s old shirt out of Mindy’s closet? Or am I way too much of a Mindy/Danny fan?
