Hugh Jackman turned his 45th birthday party into a benefit concert and raised $1.85 million for the Motion Picture & Television Fund.
Jackman performed a variation of his popular Broadway show at Hollywood’s Dolby Theater on Saturday. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Wolverine star sang, told stories, shared film clips, and even tap danced.
“This is probably the most narcissistic way to spend your birthday,” Jackman said about the concert. “I chose my favorite songs and told stories about my life.”
Around 4,500 guests attended the “One Night Only” concert, including a string of Hollywood heavy weights. Tom Cruise, Cybill Shepherd, Darren Criss, and Jeffery Katzenberg were just some of the many stars in the audience.
Concert goers had to pay to enter and participated in an auction at the end of the show. Jackman sold off an electric Fiat, a pair of Wolverine claws, and the two undershirts he wore during the benefit concert.
The combined proceeds were donated to the Motion Picture & Television Fund. This organization helps workers and retirees in the entertainment industry find health care and other social services.
At one point during the three hour concert, Jackman’s wife got the crowd to sing “Happy Birthday” to the generous birthday boy, Deadline reports.
