Cory Monteith died accidentally from a lethal combination of heroine and alcohol, according to the final coroner’s report released Wednesday. These findings confirms the initial cause of death reported after his July 13th death.
After portraying Finn Hudson on the hit show Glee for four years, Monteith was found dead in his Vancouver hotel. Footage from hotel security shows Monteith returning to his room alone at 2:16 a.m. on July 13th and was not seen after that time.
Monteith’s body was found after he failed to check out the following afternoon. According to the final coroner’s report, the 31-year-old actor appeared to have been dead for several hours.
“There was no trauma or injury observed and there was no evidence of foul play,” the coroner’s report stated. “An examination of the scene revealed drug paraphernalia including a spoon with drug residue and a used hypodermic needle.” Two empty bottles of champagne and several glasses were also found in the room.
Monteith’s death was the end of a long battle with addiction. According to the Los Angeles Times, he finished a stint in rehab just months before his death.
The report indicates that heroine users who stop using for some time decrease their tolerance for the drug, which could make a previously tolerated amount of the drug fatal.
