United Airlines accidently sells $5 flights due to computer glitch

United Airlines sold flight tickets for zero to ten dollars on Thursday for about two hours due to a glitch in their system.

Customers were ecstatic when they saw the incredibly low prices as they booked tickets yesterday afternoon.

One customer, Craig Bean, purchased a $7.50 ticket from Washington to Austin. According to LA Times, he tweeted at United, “Not sure why so cheap but I hope u honor the price.”

After United Airlines realized the issue, they briefly shut down part of their site until the problem was taken care of.

According to Time, United’s spokeswoman Megan McCarthy said that there wasn’t a problem with the website; the mistake was in filing the fares.

When asked if the low ticket prices that were sold on Thursday would be honored, McCarthy responded that United would do what was “appropriate.”

Despite the vague answer, United has a history of owning up to its mistakes. In 2008, the airline honored tickets that were accidentally sold at a lower cost because fuel surcharges of up to $130 were dropped.
