Hair. We all have it; some more than others, in many styles, cuts, and colors. Celebrities, with their access to some of the leading industry stylists have some of the most enviable locks in the world. Whether you love their looks, or loathe them, these ten stars are have some of most notable heads of hair in Hollywood.
Justin Bieber
The Biebs may be known for many aspects of his life these days; his not so clean driving record, ties to Floyd Mayweather, and a high profile on-again-off-again relationship with Selena Gomez.
But what really put Bieber on the map, aside from his singing and dancing chops, was his hair.
Not since The Beetles have girls lusted after a pop sensation. At the time of Bieber’s emergance, young boys everywhere were emaluating that helmet hair style of his. The Bieber hair was the epitome of the pubescent boy hair trend across the nation. And like any star marking the next chapter of their career, Bieber tried a drastic new ‘do. Just shy of 17, the young star debuted a sleek grown-up cut at the 2011 Oscars. The hair change cost him 80,000 followers on Twitter.
While Bieber’s premiere hairstyle covered his face, he now sports a highly elevated, flipped style. His style is evolving as baby Biebs enters manhood but his hair will always cause a stir.
Katy Perry
This California girl always looks amazing, whether it be on the red carpet or in costume on stage.
When Perry first entered the music scene her look was very “pin-up”. She was kissing girls (and liking it) and her dark retro inspired hair made those baby blues pop. Most people don’t know that Katy (real name Kate Hudson) is actually a natural blonde! Perry, formerly a Christian rock singer, completely changed her look and sound with the release of “I Kissed a Girl” in 2008.
Perry has sported blue hair on multiple occasions and for some odd reason, it looks really good! Most stars would not be able to pull off such a look, but the eccentric color reflects Perry’s sound and personality well.
Another great look on the songstress was her blue and pink highlights debuted in her video for Firework. The 28-year-old has since donned purple, pink, and blonde hair. Her pale and clear complexion always supplements these unconventional color choices.
Halle Berry
Miley Cyrus may think she’s edgy with her short new do but Halle Berry will always be the queen of the pixie.
Countless America’s Next Top Model contestants have bawled their eyes out over having to cut their hair. The Oscar winner on the other hand has had extremely short hair for her entire acting career.
With flawless skin and exotic beauty like Berry’s, a short cut can really emphasize her features, and it has!
It also helps to have an amazing body like hers, but that’s beside the point.
The newlywed and now pregnant star has been recently spotted around Paris with hubby, model Olivier Martinez, sporting a slightly longer do.
The Kardashians
The Kardashain ladies are known for many things; their extravagant lifestyles, their business savy ways, they’re to-die-for wardrobes, their no holds bar reality show, and that hair!
While the Armenian sisters admit to using extensions, young girls around the world have aspired to achieve their long, sexy hairstyle. For quite some time dark hair was synonymous with the Kardashian look, with the exception of youngest sister Khloe who naturally has lighter coloring.
In the summer of 2009 however, Kim made her most drastic change by going blonde. As most females with natural dark coloring should do, Kim had more a caramel blonde look. Her stylist Clyde Haygood carried out the five-hour process, which included lifting her base color and adding in highlights. Kim made one of her first public debuts since giving birth to baby North sporting a caramel color with noticeable and intentional roots.
Kourtney has also played around with color, optining for more subtle highlights.
Khloe began Keeping Up with a darker hue but having come into her own has accepted her beautiful light coloring. Her most common style is a faint ombre that really works for her skin tone.
And with that we can’t leave out mama bear Kris. Her short bob is her signature, although she has played around with wigs on Keeping Up episodes.
Adding to their conglomerate, the girls recently launched Kardashian beauty, so now every girl (at a price) can achieve their hairstyles.
Johnny Depp
Spoiler alert: Depp is the first and only man to be featured on this last.
Johnny Depp has undergone more hair changes than any man in Tinseltown, and probably most ladies as well.
The 50-year-old is a full on method actor, and by that we mean even his hair gets completely into character.
When Depp first starred on the 1980’s series 21 Jumpe Street his perfect bone structure was contrasted by his rough and messy hair.
As beautiful as the Oscar nominee may be, he loves to take on roles where he is certainly portrayed as less attractive. In 1990’s Edward Scissorhands he played the lead, peculiar-looking character whom lacked eyebrows, had insane hair, and – well – scissors for hands. In periodic films like Sleepy Hollow his hair is a complete blast from the past. In Blow and Chocolat he still looks handsome in long goldilocks.
One of his most iconic roles, due in large part to his dramatic look, is that of Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribean. A little eyeliner and dreadlocks and Depp can pass as the reign of the seven seas. Sparrow is supposed to be a grimy pirate yet we still find Depp devilishly handsome.
Life has imitated art since 2004’s Secret Window. In the film Depp is a troubled novelist who has a subtle goatee, ‘60’s inspired glass frames, and grungy blonde hair. This look has been his go-to in between work projects in recent times.
Other memorable, fanatical, Johnny Depp looks include : Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeny Todd, Alice in Wonderland and Dark Shadows.
We can only imagine the thrill costume and art directors get to have with Depp on set!
Connie Britton
The beautiful Connie Britton got her start in Hollywood in sitcoms like Ellen and Spin City. But her role in 2004’s Friday Night Lights which lead to her starring in the series, made her a star. Although she is a renowned actress, currently seen on ABC’s Nashville, we think Britton’s biggest talent is her hair!
Her long, luscious, strawberry blonde locks are unlike anything we ever see in Hollywood. She joins the ranks of ravenous red heads like Amy Adams, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Jessica Chastain. Connie Britton, however, has that kind of hue that one can only be born with although rumor has it she is not a natural red head (we’d be shocked!).
The 46-year-old starred on creepy FX series American Horror Story for one season and despite her character devouring a human brain, she still seems angelic to us (yup it’s the hair).
Miley Cyrus
For a young starlet, MIley Cyrus has undergone quite the hair evolution.
Already at a young age, the former Disney star was known for her hair while starring on Hannah Montana. As Miley Stewart she was an average girl with natural auburn and wavy long hair. Channeling her celebrity alter ego, she donned a pin straight blonde wig with bangs.
After her first breakup with fellow teen pop star Nick Jonas, the then 15 year old dyed her hair dark. "When we were dating, Nick wanted me to get highlights — and so I did that, and I got myself looking great," she told Seventeen in 2008. "And then, on the day we broke up, I was like, 'I want to make my hair black now — I don't want to look pretty; I want to look hard-core.'
With her then fiancé and The Last Song co-star as her arm candy, it seemed Miley and her hair were looking their best on his press tour for The Hunger Games. She led the ombre trend with a short and sweet style. Miley was often seen leaving pilates classes in a top knot bun. This look became so popular that there was even social media accounts devoted to “Miley’s bun.”
With the help of renowned hair stylist and close friend to the stars, Chirs McMilan, the star went even shorter and completely blonde. The new look received rave reviews and it seemed Miley was looking better than ever, but it was all shortlived. Clearly the 20-year-old was not satisfied; only a few short days later she debuted her most edgiest look. She essentially shaved off the sides, leaving little of her now platinum blonde hair.
While many critiqued the look, Miley laments “You will never see me with long hair again!” After the hair evolution Cyrus has had, and controversy surrounding her recent performance and music video antics, we aren’t sure if this style-star and her hair can be tamed.
Rihanna
“Blondanna,” “Brr,” or “She.”
Rihanna’s hair looks are so iconic, she even names them! And if she doesn’t title them herself, her devote fan base (known as The Navy) will. Rih has rocked about every color on the spectrum and pulled off every look. With a face like hers, how could she not?!
The Barbados beauty began her career with long caramel colored tresses but it was with Good Girl Gone Bad and a daringly short and wispy cut that she truly became a super star.
Her fifth album Loud appropriately described her then fire truck red hair. Since then, she’s been blonde and brunette, rocked long hair and most recently short and tight curls.
Case in point, Rihanna and her hair can do no wrong!
It seems like with each passing day, her over 9 million Instagram followers are eagerly awaiting her next hair change. We can’t wait to see what she’ll pull off next.
Blake Lively
Spotted: everyone in Hollywood sulking over the fact that they are not Blake Lively.
The fashion icon, and spokesperson for Chanel, Versace, and Burberry never, and we truly mean never, seems to have a bad hair day.
Blake has a few signature looks yet it always seems like she’s mixing things up, staying on trend, and looking flawless. The actress is typically sporting loose waves which always is a nice offset from her glamorous red carpet attire. She’s also not one to fear hair accessories like chains and headbands. Lively always seems to be the first to rock the next big hair trend whether it be a braided style, a pony tail, or any edgy ‘do.
The 25-year-old’s hair is fabulous and laid back at the same time. We can only imagine how drop dead gorgeous whatever style she chose for her ultra secret wedding to actor Ryan Reynolds was.
The former Gossip Girl star seems to have taken a break from acting, enjoying married life with her hubby in Bedford, New York. We are sure that despite her more low-key life style her hair is still looking on-point!
Jennifer Aniston
Two words: The Rachel. Every trend following women in the 90's had to have this coveted 'do and while no one is rocking it today (for good reasoning) it was definitely the style of the time. Maybe it was because the beautiful Jennifer Aniston, who then starred on the now classic sitcom F.R.I.E.N.D.S was the barring of the hair. The 44-year-old actress recently revealed how the cut that made her star actually came about, and how she feels about it.
Jen recently opened up about the cut that changed everything. “It’s one of those things I think is hysterical,” she said. “That me of all people, who grew up with the worst hair, is known for that.”
Celeb stylist Chris McMillan created the look because Aniston's hair then was too long and frizzy. “Cut the bottom, layered it from existing bangs to bottom, took a bobby pin, pinned it over and blew it out smooth,” McMillan explains on Aniston's web series Living Proof.
But Aniston confessed she actually can't stand it. She told Marie Claire it was "horrible" and took three brushes to style. "It was like doing surgery." She called it the "ugliest haircut I've ever seen."
Since then Aniston has taken on a less damaging approach to her hair and remained a style icon. While she relatively mixes things up, Jen's simple yet exquisent style has enviable shine and has made her a top request at most hair salons. Her color known as "bronde" is achieved by a paticular highlighting process known as baliage.
For her upcoming wedding nuptials to Justin Theroux, Aniston says she'll likely stick with her signature look of loose and natural because it goes against the "formality of the dress."
"Loose, like, 'I just got out of bed, maybe had a romp' hair."
