PETA criticizes Katy Perry’s ‘Roar’ music video

Animals rights organization PETA has criticized Katy Perry’s use of animals in her new music video, “Roar,” saying that animals used for entertainment purposes like these are often abused.

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) spokesperson Merrilee Burke said, “Animals used for entertainment endure horrific cruelty and suffer from extreme confinement and violent training methods. They often become stressed and anxious when hauled around and forced into unfamiliar and frightening situations,” according to Contact Music.

In her music video, Perry crashes on a jungle island and interacts with animals like a spider, a monkey, an elephant, and a tiger. The animals were provided for use in the video by The Serengeti Ranch. According to Burke, this ranch has had multiple offenses of violating animal rights, which could mean the animals featured in “Roar” were possibly abused.

Perry had nothing but good things to say about the animals on set. “"We are shooting with some very well-trained, very well-mannered animals," Perry said, according to E News.
