Michael J. Fox is making his small screen return when The Michael J. Fox Show hits the air on September 26. The Parkinson’s ridden actor sat down with the Rolling Stones to discuss his return to the small screen and dons the cover for the first time in 26 years.
"People said, 'Are you sure you can handle this?'" Fox tells Rolling Stone. "'Are you sure you can take it on? Are you sure you can deal with it?' And I said, 'No. I'm not sure I can, but I want to and I have an opportunity to.' And another side of it, that I don't deal with every day but is certainly present, is that on some level it might be empowering for people."
The new NBC series focuses on Fox’s life as he starts as a returning journalist struggling with Parkinson’s disease.
Fox notes that he is aware the way people “look at” him saying they have “fear and sadness in their eyes, which they think they're seeing reflected back at them. They wouldn't see what I'm really feeling, which is, 'I'm OK!' But people are afraid."
The new issue of Rolling Stone is available Friday, September 13.
