Fox to create Batman origin TV show: ‘Gotham’

Fox is creating a television series entitled Gotham, centering on the history of Batman’s home city
.
The show will focus on Commissioner James Gordon’s at the Gotham City Police Department as a detective before he ever meets Batman, according to Collider.

Fox won a bidding war to get an entitlement for a Batman show from Warner Bros, according to Entertainment Weekly. Fox has made a series commitment, and Bruno Heller from the Mentalist has signed on to produce and execute the show.

The announcement comes just over a year after the last movie in the Dark Knight Batman trilogy was released. All three movies, which starred Christian Bale as Batman, received phenomenal reception.

Batman was originally created by DC Comic artist Bob Kane. The first strip was published in May of 1939, according to NY Times. Kane said he was in part inspired by a Leonardo Da Vinci picture of a “flying machine with huge bat wings.” Kane explained, “It looked like a bat man to me.”

After Batman’s vast history of comics, shows, and movies, what do you hope to see in Fox’s new Batman series, Gotham?
