‘Under the Dome’ recap- “Curtains” and season review

In this episode of Under the Dome, secrets of the Dome are revealed and Big Jim is determined to put an end to Barbie once and for all. Meanwhile, Junior, Angie, Joe and Norrie discover who the Monarch is after receiving a shocking visit from a familiar face, on the first season finale cliffhanger.

Short Recap

This episode begins were the last episode left off. Barbie is in jail. Joe and Norrie were in jail but Big Jim agreed to let them go if Barbie gives up. Angie takes Julia from the hospital but miraculously Julia is better after getting shot in her shoulder/ collar area.

At this time, the entire dome is pitch-black. Norrie, Joe, and Ben tries to prevent Linda from taking the mini-dome that was kept at Ben’s house. Linda touches it and she goes flying across the room. Joe, Norrie and Junior decide to take the mini-dome to an abandon cement factory while Angie and Julia break Barbie out of prison. Also, they did have to fight off Phil and another volunteer.

They all meet up at the factory and the four touch the dome while Julia and Barbie look in amazement. The mini-dome breaks and the monarch butterfly choose Julia as the monarch. The egg begins to glow and cause an earthquake. While the others run away, Julia takes it and the earth shaking stops. Junior tries to stop them from going any further with this nonsense but Barbie gives himself up again. Everyone else escapes. Angie, Norrie, Joe, and Julia talk to the egg and it tells them (in the image of Norrie’s dead mother) that the dome is supposed to protect them. Julia decides to drop the egg in the lake. While that is going on, Barbie is being prepared to be hanged. Then pink rays of light fly into the sky and fall down.

Season Review

I have had issues with this show since it started. This show has a lot of potential for real greatness but the characters are so stupid it is unbearable. People like Linda, Phil, and Dodee fell under Big Jim’s spell and they have or will play the price. Big Jim is out front with his beliefs and motivations. He is a very good villain but people are so easily fooled by his cliched speeches and mannerisms that it takes away from his villainy.

I think that Joe, Norrie and Barbie saved the show for me. They are the smartest and they have a strong desire to save people and do what’s right. They also provide the action this show needs. Angie was a victim for most of the show but she got better at being an action girl. On the other hand, Junior is the worst character in the show because he doesn’t know what is right and he believes his father is a god. The constant flipping back and forth on every issue proves that he can’t make up his mind.

Overall, this show is decent. If you enjoy sci-fi and mystery, take a look. “The Endless Thirst”, “Thicker Than Water”, “The Fourth Hand”, “Let the Games Begin”, and “Speak of the Devil” are the best episodes of the season. Most of these episodes featured Maxine. She was a fantastic femme fatale that should have been featured more. This show gets a7.5 out of 10. Do want to see what happens next season.
