Usain Bolt reclaimed the gold for the 100 meter sprint Sunday, having lost the title two years previously in South Korea due to disqualification because of a false start. The victory was extra sweet, as Bolt now once again holds every major and significant sprint title there is.
The 2011 victor, Jaimaca's Yohan Blake, became the event's youngest champion ever at 21 years old.
Bolt's victory came at a brisk 9.77 seconds and, in the pouring rain, it seemed as though the sprinter had gotten a slow and bad start. With a last-second burst of speed however, Bolt left his competition in the dust and successfully reclaimed his throne.
Although his success may not have been unprecedented nor unexpected, his lack of immediate celebration was. For once, he crossed the finish line with a serious expression on his face, and only started outwardly celebrating after several minutes. His comment on the achievement was that: "for me to come in and regain my title, it's always great to be back," says USA Today.
USA's Justin Gatlin took second place and Bolt's Jamaican teammate Nesta Carter took third.
One could say Bolt's competition wasn't as tough as it could have been, seeing as how several of his rivals were absent from the events. Tysan Gay was gone due to a doping offense and the defending champion Jamaican teammate Yohan Blake was absent due to an injured hamstring, says ESPN.
