Traveling with a Toddler: San Jose & Santa Cruz - Roaring Camp Railroads

Traveling with a toddler in San Jose and Santa Cruz continues as we leave San Jose for Santa Cruz!

We left San Jose and went to Roaring Camp Railroads in Felton which is located in the nearby mountains. We rode a steam train through the Redwood forest to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.

Our three year old is a huge fan of trains but this was her first time actually riding one. She was thrilled beyond belief. The Roaring Camp that the train departs from is very cute. It looks like a prospecting town. The train is an 1800s steam train and the conductors wear period uniforms.

The conductors gave a little background on the area and the trains history as we were traveling. Riding through the forest was nice but my favorite part was that the train tracks rode through the middle of the street through town and we saw the quaint little beach houses.

A big hit for the kids was going through the tunnel. It was pitch black but one of our fellow passengers had brought a flashlight for the occasion and flashed it into the tunnel as we rode through.
