Actor Steve Carrell, best known for his portrayal of Michael Scott on The Office is celebrating his 51st birthday today.
Born in Concord, Massachusetts, Carrell didn't have an immediate start in acting. He worked as a mail carrier, then in a touring children's theatre, and finally in a comedy musical. Carrell auditioned for Saturday Night Live in 1995, but lost his role to Will Ferrell. During his early career he made many appearances on comedy shows, but finally found his place on The Daily Show with John Stewart from 1999 to 2005.
2013 was a busy year for Carrell, with the wrapping of the The Office after 9 seasons. He starred in The Incredible Burt Wonderstone as the title character about a superstar magician. He appeared as Trent in The Way Way Back, a comedy-drama which was released this summer, but won acclaim at the 2013 Sundace Film Festival. One of the most anticipated movies of the summer, Despicable Me 2, in which Carrell reprised his role as Gru. He has two more films coming out in 2013, Foxcatcher and the sequel to the classic Anchorman: The Legend Continues.
