A 38-year-old man saved the lives of two seniors, whose car had stalled in the middle of a railroad crossing in Iowa, by pushing their car off of the tracks seconds before the train came through.
Chris Ihle was returning from his lunch break back to his workplace of Wells Fargo Bank in Ames, Iowa when he noticed a Pontiac Boneville stalled in the middle of a nearby railroad crossing, according to Fox News.
Ihle along with other onlookers yelled at the two seniors to get out of the car as the crossing gates lowered and the whistle of an oncoming train was heard. When the couple didn’t move, Isle ran onto the tracks, trying to push the car out of harm’s way.
Ihle wedged his toes under the rails to get leverage and managed to heave the car about five feet, out of the path of the oncoming train. The car out of the way, Ihle stepped away from the tracks just seconds before the train came through.
Ihle told the Des Moines Register he had his three children in mind during his heroic act. “I just kept thinking, what if they were in that car? I had to do something.”
