Yesterday evening, a man drove through the crowd at LA’s Venice Boardwalk, injuring 11 people and killing one before getting out of his car and running away.
"There is no indication that he knew anybody that he hit. It looks like this guy wanted to run over a bunch of people. One guy bent on doing evil," LA Police Department’s Commander Andy Smith told CNN.
The suspect, 38-year-old Nathan Campbell, later turned himself in to the Santa Monica Police Department. His car was found in a Santa Monica neighborhood.
According to ABC, witness Katherine Blackburn said, “It was horrible…There were people flying, laying on the ground, tents flying everywhere. If he wanted to kill people, he came on a perfect time, 5 p.m. on a Saturday in the summer in Venice Beach."
The one fatality was a woman who was in LA with her new husband on their honeymoon. Another person is in critical condition, and two others are in serious condition. The other victims suffered from minor injuries.
Police are still investigating what the suspect’s motive may have been.
