Broadway star Julie Harris passes away at age 87

Julie Harris, one of Broadway’s most renowned performers, has passed away at age 87.
During her career, Harris won five Tony Awards for best actress in a play and then a sixth Tony for a special lifetime achievement award. Harris appeared in Broadway plays like The Member of the Wedding, The Last of Mrs. Lincoln, Forty Carats, and The Lark.
According to USA Today, Harris died in her home in West Chatham, Massachusetts of congestive heart failure. Harris has had a history of strokes, including one during a performance of Fossils in 2010.
Harris knew she wanted to be an actress since she was a little girl. She told her high school drama teacher that acting was her life, according to the NY Times.
Later in her career, Harris described her love for Broadway, saying, “Acting is always an adventure, and a struggle, and a quest to find the truth.”
Harris’s family friend, Francesca James, said she is still in shock that Harris is no longer with us.
James, who was close with Harris for 50 years, said, “"She was, really, the greatest influence in my life,"
