‘Rizzoli & Isles’ recap - 'No One Mourns the Wicked'

With the unfortunate news of Lee Thompson Young’s death, I wanted to take some time to talk about the career of the talented Mr. Young. Most 90’s kids know that Lee Thompson Young played Jett Jackson in The Famous Jett Jackson but his breakout role was in Jett Jackson: The Movie. He pulled off playing the bleak and ultra-serious Sliverstone and the fun loving -friendly Jett Jackson with flawless grace in by far the best Disney Channel film of the 2000s. It showcased his range and his ability to switch between opposite personalities. His portrayal of these characters was an inspiration for many young African-American males looking for a cool, smart, and dashing James Bond-Batman hybrid.

In his career, he has played many other roles including Cyborg in Smallville and Detective Frost in Rizzoli and Isles . His portrayal of that character remains one of the only live action portrayals of Victor Stone. Sadly, Young was not utilized to his max in Rizzoli and Isles. Personally, he should have had a bigger role in the show. Audiences will never have the chance to see how far his star could have risen. Lee Thompson Young will be missed.

In this episode of Rizzoli & Isles, Jane and Maura are asked to present the case of serial killer Charles Hoyt at a symposium for law enforcement. Meanwhile, Jane worries that her greatest challenge will be facing bad memories. However, as she and Maura begin a simulation of investigating Hoyt's murders, they soon come across a horrifying discovery.

The episode focuses on Dr. Victoria Nolan is on a book tour for her Three Faces of Evil, which is about serial killers, one of them were Charles Hoyt. A crime scene depicting Hoyt's murders are staged. As Jane and Maura move to describe the "victims," they see that two people have actually been killed. The victims, past and present, have been branded with the Rod of Asclepius symbol. The first victims linked to the brand were the parents of a girl named Tori, whose deaths left her orphaned.

The team learns Tori had been raped and given birth before her parents' death. Dr. Nolan goes home with Korzak so he can tend to his pregnant dog. There, he becomes her next intended victim, while she guides her "research assistant" and son Jack in the process. Korzak is able to get Nolan and her son to argue long enough for his team to save him.

The episode ends with a dedication to Lee Thompson Young. The episode was okay. It was one of the best episodes of the season but it was uncomfortable to watch with the current circumstances. Rizzoli & Isles airs on TNT.
