Traveling with a Toddler: San Jose & Santa Cruz - The Fairmont

Traveling with a three year old is never an easy job. I thought traveling across the country was asking for trouble. I couldn’t have been more wrong. With a little bit of planning we managed to have an amazing vacation that was enjoyed by both parents and child.

The Fairmont San Jose we stayed at was marvelous. The hotel was beautiful and located in the center of downtown San Jose, within walking distance of several restaurants and attractions.

The rooms were really spacious and it was nice to have a separate tub and shower. The view from our room was unparalleled; we could see buildings below us and the mountains off in the distance. The Fairmont had an outdoor pool on the fourth floor, which was open from sunrise to sunset.

When we arrived we were still on New York time so when we woke at 6 am we decided to go for a swim. We had the pool all to ourselves. It was spectacular to watch the sunrise as we were swimming. The hotel has a breakfast buffet that made all of us happy. Out three year old loved the waffles and I was thrilled to see soy milk as a drink choice.

Right across the street is the Plaza de Cesar Chavez which includes a large public fountain where people gather and children dance in the spray as well as a shady field. It was a nice way to cool off in the middle of the day.
