This week on Teen Wolf, Scott struggles to save Dr. Deaton, while Derek ights the Alpha pack, and ends up losing one of his own.
“Currents” begins with Scott bringing his mother, Melissa, some food during her shift at the hospital. Melissa is extremely busy because of a huge traffic accident. Melissa is frazzled because the doctor isn’t answering any calls and the on-call doctor hasn’t shown up yet. Scott wants to help, so he comforts a woman and places his hand on her own. He uses his gift to take away some of her pain. The touching moment is cut short, as Ethan, one of the Alpha twins, carries Danny in, yelling for help. Ethan says he didn’t do anything to Danny, right before Danny vomits up mistletoe. Melissa tells the boys to help her, and she saves Danny’s life. Both Scott and Ethan are impressed.
The on-call doctor calls into the hospital, saying she’s on her way. Moths start showing up in her car and attack her while she’s driving. She also sees a creepy face in the mirror.
Ethan again claims he didn’t do anything to Danny. He then says he won’t harm Danny, because the Alpha pack figured out Lydia is the one important to Scott. The conversation is interrupted by a swerving car. The two rush to see if the driver is alright, but the driver’s seat is empty, except for a moth.
Stiles and the Sheriff show up at the scene. Stiles and Scott discuss how these are sacrifices from the next grouping of three, the healers. Scott overhears the Sheriff say they found a body. Deucalion and Aiden are at that crime scene, as is Chris Argent. At Derek’s, the alarm is going off. Cora asks what the symbol on the window means, and Derek tells her it means the Alpha pack is coming.
At Scott’s house, Scott and Isaac are sprawled across Melissa’s bedroom. The two said they were standing watch, to make sure she wasn’t another sacrifice, but they both ended up falling asleep. At school, Ms. Blake is substituting for Mr. Harris’s science class. Stiles tells Scott that the doctor died of asphyxiation, but he wasn’t strangled like past victims. The two are trying to figure out who is the next sacrifice, when Dr. Deaton calls Scott and tells him “I’m going to be taken. I need you to find me.” Deaton’s windows are covered in moths when he hangs up the phone.
Isaac and Boyd arrive at Derek’s offering their help. Boyd has an idea of using electric currents against the Alpha pack. They’re going to fill the place with water and use cables for electricity. They’re hoping it will give them an edge in the fight, especially over Kali, who fights barefoot.
Scott rushes to Deaton’s office, and finds Sheriff Stilinski and another officer. The Sheriff tells him Stiles called, and then asks Scott to tell him anything he can to help. Scott tells Stiles they have to tell Sheriff, and the two debate telling him. Stiles tells him he can’t lose his father, but he agrees to tell him the truth. When the two go to tell him, they see Ms. Morrell and discover she’s Deaton’s sister. She tells them to use Lydia to help find Deaton.
Lydia is making out with Aiden at school when the fire alarm rings. Cora, Derek’s sister, corners her when she’s trying to leave. Cora tells her Derek wants her to stop dating Aiden. Lydia scoffs at her and says she can handle Aiden. Stiles shows up before the two get into a fight. Stiles tries to get Lydia’s powers to come out so they can find Deaton. Stiles and Cora watch her carefully, but she isn’t getting anything from any of Stiles tactics. She tells him they should be asking Danny.
Scott hears a tapping at school and goes to investigate. He finds Deucalion, who says he knows where to find Deaton. He says he will tell Scott, if he can get his cane. The two fight, and Scott is stabbed. Deucalion tells Scott he must choose between saving Deaton or Derek tonight, and gives him currents as a clue.
Melissa shows the Sheriff one of the bodies. The victims were hung by their wrists, and when they lost the ability to pull themselves up, they suffocated.
Allison tells Scott she found something, so he heads to her house while the others go to the hospital. The two have a funny moment together, and almost kiss, while hiding in a closet. Chris has a map of where all the victims were taken, and were they were found. He has other places marked on the map though, where no one has been found yet. There are six different places, so the group needs to narrow it down.
Stiles goes through Danny’s stuff at the hospital, after slapping him a couple times to make sure he wasn’t awake. He is somewhat awake though and asks what Stiles is doing. Stiles continues to try and make him believe he’s dreaming. He finds a science paper in Danny’s bag, which he believes is why Danny was targeted and poisoned with mistletoe.
At Derek’s, Isaac notices a light isn’t on. The Alpha’s have cut the power, which means their plan won’t work. Kali breaks in with the twins. Kali uses Ms. Blake as leverage in the fight, telling Derek the twins won’t hurt her if Boyd and Isaac don’t fight. Kali and Derek fight each other while the others look on.
Meanwhile, Lydia, Stiles, Cora, and Scott are trying to use Danny’s paper to figure out where Deaton is being kept. Cora figures out he’s in the vault where she and Boyd were kept by the Alpha pack. Boyd texts Cora to let them know the plan failed. Scott tells her, Stiles, and Lydia to go to Derek’s to help, while he goes to rescue Deaton.
Scott finds Deaton and tries to get to him, but discovers he’s encircled in mountain ash. Scott tries to break through the barrier to get to Deaton, he doesn’t succeed, but his eyes turn red. The Sheriff shows up and shoots the ropes holding Deaton. Kali and Derek continue fighting, and Stiles lets Isaac know they’re turning the power back on. Kali, Derek, and Boyd get stuck in the current, while Isaac goes to Ms. Blake. Kali yells at the twins and they force Derek to stab Boyd. Boyd tells Derek everything’s alright. Flashbacks are shown of his time with Erica in the vault. Erica’s death by Kali is shown, and then Boyd falls over, dead.
Stiles, Cora, and Lydia finally get to the loft, in time to see Boyd’s body lying in the water, and Derek, kneeling and crying. Stiles and Cora rush forward. Cora holds onto Boyd’s body and Stiles places his hand on Derek’s shoulder.
Chris questions Gerard about Deucalion, and leaves. Allison shows up after Chris leaves. The Sheriff says he found Deaton because he noticed the Celtic symbol from the bank in some of Deaton’s files. Deaton tells Scott his eyes turned red, and that he is becoming a True Alpha, something that doesn’t happen often. Deaton tells Scott that Deucalion is after him, not Derek.
Quote and Comments:
“Why would I dream about you going through my stuff?” “I don’t know that Danny, okay. It’s your dream, take responsibility for it. Shut up and go back to sleep.” (Danny to Stiles when he hears Stiles going through his bag)
This was a wonderful, if sad episode. First, the sad part was Boyd’s death obviously. His death was terrible, and I hope it makes the gang all come together, instead of tearing everyone apart. It’s a supernatural show, and Peter was able to be brought back, so there’s always a chance for Boyd, and/or Erica, to return I think. On the positive side, I adored seeing so much Melissa, the amazing Momma McCall, in this episode. I loved the interaction between her and Scott, and Isaac as well, who seems really comfortable around her. I loved the Stiles/Danny moment. I thought the main group of three for this episode, Cora, Lydia, and Stiles worked out well. I’m hoping Scott and Ethan’s conversations are foreshadowing Ethan joining their side sometime in the future. I really want to know if Scott and Stiles are going to tell the Sheriff soon, or if they’ll back out on telling him for now. I also want to know how Kali knew about Ms. Blake and Derek, is it just from spying on him, or is Ms. Blake not who she seems? I really liked this episode, minus Boyd’s death, and am greatly looking forward to next week.
