House Minority Leader and former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi spoke enthusiastically about a potential presidential run by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2016.
“I think the country is ready for Hillary,” Pelosi said, according to MSNBC.
Pelosi, a Democratic Californian, is optimistic about Clinton’s chances.
“I certainly hope that she will choose to run. I think if she does, she will win. I think if and when she does, I think she’ll be the best-prepared person to enter the White House in decades.”
Clinton’s vast and diverse experience qualifies her for the position, Pelosi believes.
“I think the knowledge she has great judgment– and the respect she commands signals that she will be successful should she decide to run. And I think it would be a great thing for our country to have a woman president. I always thought that it would be easier to elect a woman to be president of the United States than to be speaker of the House.”
When asked whether she would throw her support behind Clinton, Pelosi responded, “I have a habit of supporting people when they decide to run, and I’ve said very positive things about [Hillary Clinton].”
“I’d be absolutely thrilled,” she continued, according to the Daily Caller. “But the thing about Hillary — I’d be thrilled because she would be the first woman president. But separate and apart from the fact she’s a woman, she would be a great president, and that’s really the standard that we have to hold everyone to.”
