Judge bars ex from access to Shakira's bank account

A judge in Geneva has recently ruled against an attempt by singer Shakira's ex-boyfriend to access one of her considerable bank accounts.

Antonio De la Rua, the son of former Argentine president Fernando De la Rua, is suing the singer for damages surpassing $100 million, alleging that he helped shape the multi-million dollar "Shakira brand" during their decade-long romance that ended in 2010. De la Rua told the Swiss court that he should have ownership rights to the Swiss account because it holds most of the assets of their alleged oral business agreement, the Daily News reported.

The judge ruled against De la Rua, saying that he did not provide enough evidence to prove that the two reached a professional agreement and that there were no written agreements.

“In a fifteen-page well-reasoned opinion, the Swiss court dismissed all of Mr. de la Rua’s claims that he was entitled to any participation in Shakira’s past, current or future business, brand or assets, including future income,” Shakira’s attorney, Ezequiel Camerini, said in a statement to E! News

This news comes after Shakira filed a declaration in Los Angeles County Superior Court saying De la Rua had admitted in emails that he never had a stake in any of her companies and therefore has no right to her business' profits.

"Just so you know, I am not Shakira's partner in coquito or any of her other companies. We have everything very neatly and she is the sole owner of all of them," reads a copy of an email he allegedly sent to Shakira's mom in January 2011. "I am not a partner in any of your companies. You are the sole owner of all of them," says a related email sent to Shakira herself later that week.

De la Rua now claims that he was responsible for the 36-year-old singer's $300 million deal with Live Nation in 2008. Shakira, on the other hand, swore in her filing that De la Rua had served only as a "business adviser" and had been compensated accordingly for his services. She even referenced a prenuptial agreement signed by De la Rua in 2006 in which they "expressly renounced any right" to each other's separate assets and future earnings.

Shakira is currently dating Spanish football player Gerard Pique and the new couple welcomed a son back in January. Her case against her former flame will continue on July 31.
