Critically-acclaimed crime novel The Cuckoo’s Calling, released in April under the name Robert Galbraith, was actually written by famous Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling.
Rowling confirmed suspicions to London’s Sunday Times, reports the New York Post.
“I had hoped to keep this secret a little longer because being Robert Galbraith has been such a liberating experience,” Rowling said. “It has been wonderful to publish without hype or expectation and pure pleasure to get feedback under a different name.”
The book has been described as a “classic crime novel” written in the style of P.D. James and Ruth Rendell, according to Telegraph.
Suspicions have surrounded the book’s author since its release in April. The secret was revealed after some noticed that “Robert Galbraith” shared a publisher, agent, and editor with Rowling.
The story, described as “a gripping, elegant mystery steeped in the atmosphere of London,” follows a war veteran turned private investigator who looks into the death of a model.
The Cuckoo’s Calling is Rowling's second post-Potter novel. The Casual Vacancy was published in September of last year.
