George Zimmerman has been found not guilty for the charges of manslaughter and murder of the second degree.

The jury came to a deliberation Saturday night after a full day of deliberation. The jury, which was comprised of six women, ruled that Zimmerman's gunshot was in self defense, which Florida defines as "necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm," according to USA Today.

Zimmerman, a 29-year-old Flordia man, had been on trial for manslaughter and second degree murder of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, according to The Chicago Tribune.

Zimmerman, a neighborhood watchman in Sanford, Florida, claimed that on the night of February 26 Martin attacked him. Zimmerman fired one shot at Martin with his Kel Tec 9 mm pistol. Zimmerman was initially not arrested due to Florida's "stand your ground law" which secures the right to self defense. Zimmerman was charged 45 days after the incident.

This court case has been in national news due to the possibility of a hate crime haven taken place due to Zimmerman being Hispanic and Martin being African American.
