A new study has revealed that during a person’s lifetime, they are happiest at age 23 and 69 and the least happy in their mid-50s
The Centre for Economic Performance at the London School of Economics will publish the full study later this week, but for now has released just the highlights.
The study’s results suggest that amongst the happiest people on Earth today should be Taylor Swift, age 23, and Mick Jagger, age 69. However, George Clooney, age 52, may be feeling down in the dumps.
Dr. Hannes Schwandt, the researcher who led the study, told The Daily Mail, “One theory is that the U-shape is driven by unmet aspirations which are painfully felt in midlife but beneficially abandoned later in life.”
“People in their fifties could learn from the elderly, who generally feel less regret,” Schwandt explains.
On the other hand, those in their early 20s are so happy because they overestimate how their life will turn out.
Do these findings ring true? What was the happiest year in your life?
