The Roots celebrated in Philadelphia in a massive mural

The Roots, of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon , have made their mark on Philadelphia in the form of a multistory mural in their image and honor.

The colorful work of art is featured on the back of a charter school in the band’s hometown. The Grammy-winning group was founded in Philadelphia in 1992, and the mural, entitled “Legendary,” features portraits of the band members, as well as musical instruments and cassette types as it portrays the history of the hip-hop group.

"This is an amazing turnaround that on South Street we're getting immortalized some 21 years later," Roots drummer Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson said, the Mercury News reports.

The unveiling of the mural, a part of the city’s Mural Arts Program, came on the eve of The Roots Picnic, an annual music festival. The executive director of the Mural Arts Program, which is responsible for 3,600 pieces around the city, expressed her pride in the work of art.

"What you see behind me right now is beautiful," director Jane Golden said. "We think and we hope that we captured the wonderful spirit of The Roots."

According to The New York Daily News , Thompson and his fellow band members are more than pleased with the results.

“This is one of the greatest moments of our career," the drummer said. "I've forever driven the streets of Philadelphia wondering, when are we getting our mural?"
