Paula Deen dropped by Smithfield foods

Only days after the Food Network announced that it would not renew Paula Deen’s contract, the chef has lost her contract with Smithfield Foods, a company for which Deen had a line of different ham products.

The decision was clearly motivated by Deen’s recent N-word controversy.

“Smithfield condemns the use of offensive and discriminatory language and behavior of any kind,” the company said in a statement, according to E! Online.

“Therefore, we are terminating our partnership with Paula Deen,” it continued. “Smithfield is determined to be an ethical food industry leader and it is important that our values and those of our spokespeople are properly aligned.”

Ratings for Paula’s show, Paula’s Favorite Dishes, dropped 25% this year, according to the Los Angeles Times. It is unclear whether this contributed to the Food Network’s decision to cut her show.

Following suit, QVC is currently “reviewing their business relationship” and has “no immediate plans to have her appear.”

Despite the large public backlash and being dropped by the Food Network and Smithfield, many fans have defended Deen via social media.
