Jackie Chan writes autobiographical musical

Jackie Chan, the international action film icon from Hong Kong, plans to stage a musical based on his life. The musical will be an adaptation of his 1998 memoir I am Jackie Chan.

According to Eonline, the musical has been reported to cover his parents’ lives, his early youth, and his attempt to rise out of the shadow of martial arts legend Bruce Lee.

The Hollywood Reporter stated that at a press conference at the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York Chan said “We are looking for a director for the musical right now. It’s all very exciting.”

The press conference took place within Chan’s two-day visit to New York. During his visit, Chan was the guest of honor at a Lincoln Center reception honoring Hong Kong cinema on June 10.

On the same day, the Rush Hour star received a lifetime achievement award from the New York Asian Film Festival. The film festival screened Chan’s new movie Chinese Zodiac.
