J.C. Penney and Sears cut ties with Paula Deen

J.C. Penney, Sears, and Ballantine Books have added their names to the growing list of companies to drop their business relationships with Paula Deen.

J.C. Penny Co. spokesperson Daphne Avila said the company’s stores will stop selling Deen’s products and will remove her merchandise from its website this weekend, reports the Dallas News.

After “careful consideration,” Ballantine Books has also cancelled its deal with Deen for five books, according to USA Today.

Her book, Paula Deen’s New Testament: 250 Favorite Recipes, All Lightened Up, was set to be released this October and had already reached No. 1 on Barnes & Noble and Amazon’s sites.

These are only the most recent blows to Deen, who was also dropped by Wal-Mart, the Food Network, Caesars Entertainment, Target, Walgreen, and Home Depot after a recent racism scandal.

Deen admitted to using the n-word and planning a wedding party in which African American servers dressed up in plantation-style slave clothing.

A recent appearance on the Today Show did little to help her case, despite her tears and apologies.
