In fatal bullet wound to father, no charges anticipated against 4-year old shooter

Justin Stanfield Thomas was shot once in the chest on Friday after his son picked up a gun and pulled the trigger according to The Washington Post. Thomas, 35, and his son were visiting an unidentified former roommate at their old shared residence in Prescott Valley, Arizona.

When the boy arrived at the home, he quickly found the handgun, asked a questioned about what it was and then found his finger on the trigger.

According to CNN, Prescott Valley Police Sgt. Brandon Bonney said, "This appears to be an accident. There was no conflict in the stories of those in the house. The resident didn't know his former roommate was stopping by to visit." He continued that the gun should have been locked up, but Thomas’ friend was unaware of the visit from his past roommate and hadn’t put it away.

When emergency crews arrived at the scene, they took Thomas to a local hospital, where he was immediately determined dead.

Fortunately, no other children were present in the house. No charges are expected from authorities about the incident.
