For over a decade now, Marvel's pantheons of heroes have been splintered across production companies. Fox has owned the rights to the mutants found n the X-Men universe, Sony has Spiderman, and Marvel Studios was left with their core Avengers like Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man. But recent news shows that the licensing of these characters is not clean cut, the production companies may be in cohoots.
We reported last month on Joss Whedon's revelation that mutants and Avengers members Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch would appear in The Avengers 2. This seemed to firmly place those characters in Marvel Studios' realm.
But as reported by Newsarama Quicksilver will also be appearing in the upcoming X-Men film, X-Men: Days of Future Past. Though, as time travel is an integral aspect of that film, the Quicksilver at Fox will be a younger version of the character than the one promised to appear in The Avengers 2.
The revelation was tweeted by the X-Men film's director, Bryan Singer:
Before he was an #Avenger, he was just a REALLY fast kid. Thrilled to say #EvanPeters is joining #XMen #DaysOfFuturePast as #Quicksilver.

Superhero Hype lays out the agreement between Marvel and Fox. Marvel Studios can use any former Avengers (this includes Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Storm, Wolverine, and others) as long as they don't mention that they are mutants or reveal the characters' relations to X-Men heavy hitters like Magneto (Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch's father). And Fox can use those characters as long as they don't mention their membership in the Avengers.
But hopefully it's more than that. Could this be the start of a cross-production universe? It seems there could be money to be made in a The Avengers and X-Men crossover.
