Neil Patrick Harris to host Emmy Awards

Neil Patrick Harris is scheduled to host the Primetime Emmy Award this September. The charismatic “How I Met Your Mother” star is expected to out due himself, as this will be his second time hosting, (he also hosted the last time CBS aired the Emmys in 2009).

Earlier this month, The Celebrity Cafe, reported on Harris’s news to host the Tony Awards again – for the fourth time – on June 9. Now, not only will he be hosting the 67th Tony Awards on CBS, but also the Emmy Awards.

According to The Washington Post, this year it CBs’s turn to host the Emmy Awards, and Harris has signed on to host again, after his live trophy show over the years have received more rave reviews than most. In fact, his hosting skills are so impressive that he won two Emmys for hosting the Tonys in 2009 and 2011. If “How I Met Your Mother” had any affiliation to ABC or NBC, he would have undoubtedly hosted the Academy Awards or Golden Globe Awards by now if not for the broadcast lock.

After the announcement yesterday that he would be hosting the Emmys, Harris stated, ““I couldn't be more honored and excited to be hosting this year's Emmy Awards, and what perfect timing — I'll just do the exact same script I'm about to use for the Tonys. ‘And the Emmy for Best Revival of a Musical goes to ‘Breaking Bad!’ See, told you it works,” according to The Los Angeles Times.

Besides Harris’s talent as an entertainer, it also doesn’t hurt that “How I Met Your Mother” will kick off its final season on CBS in the fall, not so coincidentally the very night after Harris, who plays the beloved character “Barney,” hosts the Emmy Awards. This, as is the plan, will undoubtedly bring some additional viewers to CBS and its fall line up.
