My Left Foot then became his stepping stone to obtain more award-winning roles in other movies.

He then took five-year absence from filming, and in 2002, he returned to film Gangs of New York, a movie that earned him a BAFTA, Golden Globe nomination, Academy Award nomination, and other local awards.

The actor's other movie credits included There will be Blood, earned him Academy Award, BAFTA, and Golden Globe, Nine, earned him nominations for Golden Globe and SAG Award, and the latest one, Lincoln, earned him Academy Award, BAFTA, SAG, Golden Globe, and other local awards.

Daniel Day-Lewis is married to The Crucible stage play writer, Arthur Miller's daughter, and the couple had two children together.
