6. "Dance in the Dark" - Lady GaGa
Only one of two relatively newcomers on our list, GaGa's "Dance in the Dark" does the opposite of what we are praising her idols for doing. While Summer and Cher helped usher dance music into the future, GaGa took us back. With this song from 2009's The Fame Monster, GaGa throws in booming and industrial '80s synths to create a danceable, palpable tension. "Baby loves to dance in the dark, 'cause when he's looking she falls apart," GaGa sings. The track also is beautifully written.
